The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) last week inaugurated its regional branch the Volta Region, making it the first ever regional branch of the Association in the 50 year history of SWAG.
15 sports journalists drawn from different media outfits made up the first membership of the Association in the region.
President of SWAG Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, at the inauguration said, he was delighted with the realization of a long cherished dream of the Association in opening regional branches.
“Fortunately this significant moment is coinciding with the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Association and that is significant milestone.
“This should be a stepping stone for the further expansion of the Association to other regions.
“I believe other regions would take inspiration from our colleagues in Volta Region and organize themselves for us to open branches in those regions,” he stated.
He urged the members of the newly formed association to be disciplined and adhere to the ethics of the profession.
“Being members of SWAG means we must be associated with excellence. So I advise you to be true professionals,” he added.
He said SWAG by the end of the year inaugurate more branches in the regions to reflect the national character of the Association.
